In 5837 ED, the face of Dira changed forever. For reasons known only to themselves, the Gods allowed the use of magical force. The use of magic has its limits: it doesn't work everywhere, it can be countered by nihilite, and certain species suddenly required it to survive.

The resulting chaos plunged the world into a battle for survival against forces unseen before. For some, it was convincing proof that the Gods had nothing better to do than to toy with sentient species on Dira. For others, it was wrath for growing apathy towards to Gods. For a few, it was the opportunity to gain wealth and power beyonf their wildest dreams.

The Hesberian Empire had covered most of Dira before the cataclysm. However, with the growing knowledge of the use of magic, slaves revolted against the Empire. Even local govenors refuse to listen to the emporer anymore. In areas of what used to be the eatern empire, civil wars and internal conflicts erupted. In some areas, the battles still continue. Against this backdrop, the western Empire, under the leadership for the first three consuls, brought a measure of Hesberian order into this brave new world.
